Red Star Studios, founded in 1998 by Steven and Susan Hill, is a multi-faceted ceramics center dedicated to promoting excellence in the ceramic arts with an emphasis on functional pottery. Our goal is two-fold: to provide a supportive environment for ceramic students and artists, and to foster awareness and appreciation of contemporary functional ceramics within the greater Kansas City community and beyond.

Each season brings an exciting schedule of classes and workshops for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students. Programs include 10-week ceramics courses led by our team of esteemed instructors, weekend workshops with nationally recognized potters, and weeklong single-firing workshops every summer with Red Star co-founder Steven Hill. Students have the option of earning CEU or college credit through Kansas State University for classes and workshops taken at Red Star Studios.

With fifteen private studios and a large shared studio, Red Star is a hub of creative energy, generating a warm atmosphere for sharing ideas, techniques, and friendships. During gallery hours (Thursday through Saturday, 10-4) visitors are invited to tour the studios and watch some of Kansas City's best ceramic artists, including former and current Red Star students, hard at work.
Whether one takes pleasure in collecting ceramics, working in clay, or both, Red Star Studios has something to offer everyone!
