Sanam Emami - CeramicistSanam Emami draws much of her inspiration from the organic ornamentation of Islamic Art. The surfaces of her porcelain vessels are layered with stamps, decals, and drawings. She has lectured on Islamic ceramic traditions at the Office for the Arts at Harvard (MA), the Kansas City Art Institute (MO), Bennington College (VT), ASU Art Museum-Ceramic Research Center (AZ), and NCECA (KY.) Emami received a BA in history from James Madison University (VA), and an MFA in ceramics from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. From 2004 to 2007, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor in Ceramics at the School of Art & Design at Alfred University (NY). Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of Pottery at Colorado State University – Fort Collins. She has also been a resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation (MT.) In 2003, Emami received a New York Foundation for the Arts Grant for her exclusive designs. In 2008, Emami had her first solo exhibition at Red Star Studios.
