Through a series of demonstrations and informal discussions each student will further their hand building skills and develop their creative voice. All forms of expression will be encouraged, including figurative, functional or abstract. A variety of surface and finishing treatments will also be demonstrated.

One of the goals of Red Star Studios is to offer opportunities to emerging ceramic artists through our resident artist program. These artists work for the studio in exchange for studio space and an opportunity to be a part of an energetic, nurturing ceramics community. The exhibition will present the work of our three resident artists who have been a part of the Red Star community for a year or longer.
Rachel Euting is a 2006 MFA graduate from Ohio University and is a Kansas City native. Her hand built and functional work utilizes the meditative nature of repetitive processes to develop patterning which call for close interaction in order for subtleties to be discovered.
Andrew Gilliatt earned his BFA from the University of Virginia Tech in 2003. His soda-fired work is characterized by its undulating forms, and bright, luscious, glaze surfaces. Recently his work was exhibited in an internationally juried show at the annual NCECA clay conference.
Ginny Sims recently completed post-baccalaureate studies in ceramics at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and will be applying to graduate school this fall. Her work is characterized by the incorporation of playfully quirky images and text over simple architecturally inspired forms.
