Kids & Kids+1 Workshop Class

$25 per participant (Ages 4-6 require an Adult to participate)

Kids create! This one-time, two-hour afternoon class is perfect for those ready to get their hands dirty. Have a blast making pottery on the wheel and hand-building projects knowing that the pieces you make will be coming home soon. During the class, you'll decorate what you make and our staff with fire them for a later pick-up. Please allow two hours for the full experience.

*We've combined our Kids and Kids+1 classes. Now you can enroll any number of children and adults so that parents/guardians get to join in on the fun too! Please include their names and ages in the comments area at Checkout.

Have you and your friends ever wanted to learn to try your hand at the potter's wheel? Create a workshop that fits with your group's schedule. Make a few pots and then decorate them with colorful glazes. Our staff fires them for a later pick-up. Please allow two hours for the full experience. We can easily accommodate group sizes up to 32.

Enjoy a creative Friday night date in the Crossroads! Bring your sweetheart and learn to throw on the potter's wheel. Select one of the pots you make and Red Star will glaze and fire it.* Afterward, check out one of the many restaurants in the Crossroads.

Perfect for anyone with little or no experience with the potter’s wheel, in this class you’ll make your own cups and bowls from scratch! We’ll focus on everything from the basics of “wedging”, “centering”, and “throwing” to glazing and finishing your pieces. Come learn a new skill or revisit an old hobby with this fun hands-on class!

Sculpture 101 with Christina Erives

This class is will be an intensive look into ceramic sculpture addressing various hand-building methods such as coil, slab, pinch, and solid-to- hollow construction. This class is perfect for someone wanting to overcome hurdles and tap into their creativity. Each participant will be able to choose a style such as figurative, architectural, realistic, or abstract and focus on a specific project. We will also cover various methods for slip, glaze, and “cold” surface treatments.

Mold Making with Joey Watson

Unlock the mysteries of working with plaster where everything from the working properties of the material, fabrication of models, creation of molds and the casting of objects will be covered. Stretched over eight weeks, there will be a solid foundation for beginners and a solid grounding for those seeking advanced skills. The class takes place in the Belger Crane Yard Studios dedicated plaster room, complete with ventilation and plenty of light.

Experienced throwers will be introduced to new techniques and challenged to deepen their skills by increasing scale, refining form and trimming techniques. This class is for students with some wheel experience looking to expand basic skills.

*Students in this class should be able to center clay and form a bowl or cylinder shape in a controlled manner.

Get a Handle on It with Kelly Daniels

So you’ve finally mastered making a cylinder, platter, or bowl. Now what? It's time to add a unique handle that is both fabulous and functional! Or it's time to consider the handle as a decorative suggestion. In this class we will explore a number of unique ways for creating handles that are anything but normal. We will discuss how handles complement and elevate our work. It is open to all experience levels, although some experience with clay will be helpful.

Luscious Layers: Screen Printing with Kelly Daniels

In this class we will use a variety of screen printing techniques to build successive layers of information. Print on clay techniques will allow us to create complex and compelling surfaces useful for both storytelling and decoration. Processes are applicable for sculptural and functional work and are appropriate for all types of clays and firing temperatures. This workshop is appropriate for all levels. Luscious Layers I is not a prerequisite.
