Short Dark Brown Vessel - Jose Sierra

This vessel was wheel-thrown using stoneware. It was decorated with a geometric pattern of lines and altered in the wet state. The vessel was fired in a cone 10 process and measures 8" x 4" x 6.5".

José Sierra works and lives in Tucson, AZ. Sierra was born in Mérida, Venezuela. His sculptural vessels are a hybrid of pre-Colombian art and contemporary design. The colors of the Andes and Catalina Mountains, his native landscape, inspire the palette of glazes and engobes on his thrown and alerted forms. Sierra’s exhibition, South x Midwest, opened at Red Star Studios in December 2009.
