"Covered Jar" - Shawn Spangler

This large jar was wheel-thrown using porcelain. Lines around the perimeter of the interior and exterior of the jar and lid were created using the mishma technique and are stained red. More mishma was used to create the pattern of lines and dots around the exterior of the jar. Green glaze was used on the body while yellow glaze was used on the lid’s finial and the dots. The jar measures 8" x 8" x 13".

Shawn Spangler received a BFA from Penn State and an MFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. He continued studies of Chinese ceramics at San Bao Ceramic Art Institute in Jingdezhen, China. He is a Resident Artist at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, PA.
