Penland, NC

Nicholas Joerling has been a full-time studio potter in Penland, NC for 30 years. Drawing is a very important part of Joerling’s studio practice; the lines he draws manifest themselves in the asymmetrical profiles of his forms. Joerling received a BA in history from the University of Dayton (OH), and an MFA in Ceramics from Louisiana State University. Joerling came to Red Star Studios in 2008 to conduct a workshop and curate Body in Pots, featuring his and other artists' work dealing with the figure.
